Congregationally-Based Justice Ministry

Most Unitarian Universalist congregations engage in social action or justice ministry of one kind or another. As consultants to congregations, we often hear frustration about these efforts that falls along one or more of these lines:

  • All we do is give away money. Can’t we do more?
  • It’s always the same people. How do we inspire more participation?
  • Justice work is pretty marginal to congregational life.
  • Our church leaders are so busy they’ll bless ANY efforts congregants make, without even knowing much about them.

In looking at these patterns, we began to imagine different ways of framing justice ministry. This slideshare is our attempt to do just that.
