I wrote about the dream. I wrote about your gifts.

Today, I am writing about divine authority — another element of your spiritual leadership.

For each child that’s born a morning star rises,
And sings to the universe who we are.
We are our grandmother’s prayers.
We are our grandfather’s dreamings.
We are the breath of our ancestors.
We are the Spirit of GOD.
~ Ysaye M. Barnwell

No one has to wait for permission or approval to exercise their spiritual leadership. The Life Force that created and animates us gives each of us the right. If we don’t know this, it is because we have forgotten that

Everyone has a song
God gave us each a song
That’s how we know who we are
Everyone has a song
~ Robbie Robertson (Making a Noise)

We can be confused about this. Our training may delude us to believe that our right to truth, place and voice — to making a noise in this world —  depends on our rank: whiteness, maleness, ablebodiedness, citizenship, formal education, title, credentials, IQ, wealth, fame. But this is a thought disorder. We all come into the world with the knowledge in our bones and the wisdom in our hearts that:

[w]e are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. ~ Marianne Williamson

We may need community to help us remember what is in our bones and hearts, but we do not need others’ approval to lead from Spirit. That is given to us on our first breath and does not leave until our last.
